Using LinkedIn for Recruitment: How to Stand Out and Attract Top Talent!
I delivered a webinar for several large organisations this month on how to use LinkedIn more effectively for recruitment. Many companies still underestimate how strongly their LinkedIn presence influences candidate perception.
Today’s job seekers research before applying. They read your company page, browse employee profiles, and look for signs of genuine culture and purpose. Your LinkedIn presence is your shop window for talent. It must be clear, consistent, and inviting.
Your LinkedIn Profile Is Your Shop Window for Candidates
Think of your company and employee profiles as your brand’s first impression. Every element should communicate professionalism and authenticity.
Key elements to optimise:
Professional photos and headlines: Use clear and approachable photos. Headlines should go beyond job titles and include relevant keywords to help the right people find you.
About section: Showcase your mission, values, and culture. Explain why people thrive in your organisation and what makes you different.
Experience and Featured sections: Highlight thought leadership, hiring achievements, and employee testimonials. Share examples that show impact and growth.
Company Page alignment: Ensure individual and company profiles are visually and verbally consistent. Alignment across your company page, careers site, and marketing materials builds credibility.
What You Should Be Doing with LinkedIn
LinkedIn is not a set and forget platform. A strong presence requires regular activity and a clear plan.
Optimise your Company Page: Keep your About section, banner, and contact information accurate. An outdated page gives a poor impression.
Promote open roles: Use LinkedIn Jobs and targeted campaigns to reach relevant talent. Encourage employees to share job posts within their networks.
Showcase culture: Share stories that show your people and workplace. Candidates connect with authenticity more than polished statements.
Engage with candidates: Respond to comments and messages. Active communication signals that your company values people.
Empower employees as advocates: Provide staff with content and encouragement to share company updates. Their voices extend your reach and build trust.
Measure and refine: Use LinkedIn Analytics to track engagement and application data. Adjust your content and timing based on results.
Plan ahead: Be consistent. Use a content calendar to manage regular posting and align recruiting with brand storytelling.
How to Get Results Organically
You do not need a large advertising budget to attract attention on LinkedIn. Consistent, engaging content builds results naturally.
Write engaging openings: The first two lines of your post decide whether someone clicks “see more.” Start with curiosity or value.
Tell stories: Native content performs best. Use text, images, carousels, or short videos that communicate real experiences.
Encourage interaction: Ask questions and invite opinions. The more conversation you generate, the more visibility your posts receive.
Post when professionals are active: Experiment with timing, usually mid morning or early afternoon on weekdays.
Use a few hashtags: Three to five targeted hashtags work best. Include both industry specific and broad ones.
Engage before and after posting: Comment thoughtfully on others’ posts to increase visibility and credibility.
Tag people and companies carefully: Only tag those directly relevant to your post to keep engagement authentic.
Candidates want to work for companies that appear genuine and people focused online. A consistent, engaging LinkedIn presence helps you attract rather than chase talent.
Take a moment to review your profiles and company page. Ask yourself: if I were a top candidate, would I be impressed by what I see? If not, it is time to refresh your LinkedIn strategy and open the door to better candidates.
